Skin changes interest me. The ease with which an internal organ disappears from a cosmetic discussion troubles me.
A cosmetic ambition
Age Defying Peptides is a personal publication about the research around skin, pigment and repair. I question the ambition contained in the name. Defying age sounds bold; the experiments tend to concern something much smaller and more tangible, such as collagen synthesis, hair count or a change in pigment.
The kidney case on the Melanotan II page gives that mismatch an uncomfortable edge. I cannot regard an internal injury as a small footnote to a cosmetic result. At the same time, a case report leaves important questions open, including how often an injury occurs and how firmly its cause can be established. I value precision most when a result is alarming.
Curiosity without a treatment plan
The directness of the fibroblast experiment impresses me. A culture experiment can isolate a surprisingly specific change in how a cell works. A small human study can put a number beside an impression. An awkward result can expose a question that a larger claim has skipped.
Ridiculing the wish for smoother skin or fuller hair seems cruel and unhelpful to me. I resent the bargain that erases a route, a second ingredient or an injured organ to satisfy that wish. The GHK-Cu studies and the GLOW mixture deserve their own judgements; borrowing either reassurance or alarm from another compound makes those judgements worse.
